Weclome to Kristeva's Kave. This forum is for your "thoughts." Whatever they are. Maybe you just want to say hello or just need some place to post because you are still awake at 2:00 a.m. If so, post away.

2:00 a.m is way past my bedtime but I thought I would just stop by and say "hello". I have to admit to knowing little about Kristeva's works, other than what I have had described to me by Decker, but am open to getting more familiar with her work and philosophy.

I have to admit to being slightly intimidated- she does seem difficult, particularly for someone without a formal or advanced background in literature, semantics, etc. (ie. me). But, I suppose that like everything else it may be just a matter of parsing her language down in a way that each person is able to understand.

Hello, thanks for the post. Yes, any of these theorists can be intimidating, and to her credit, Kristeva is rigorous, but then again she has to be, as she is working in a male dominated field in theory and praxis.

However, I find once you get a line on Kristeva she is quite accessible because there is a praxis to her theory, and you do not find yourself endlessly abstracting when reading her.

I recommend "The System and the Speaking Subject" as a good starting point for primary Kristeva (can be found in Moi's "The Kristeva Reader"), and I highly recommend Noelle McAfee's "Julia Kristeva" for a very updated, rigorous, and accessible exploration and introduction to Kristeva in theory and in context.

Yes, it's a good line, follow it. Hrm, I feel a present coming on.

And now you have one . . . I find that book to be an excellent precis for Kristeva and an excellent reminder of the theory/contexts of her work.
