"The System and the Speaking Subject" 2/17/2004 4:53 PM
This tightly written yet globally foundational view of Kristeva's conception of semiotics can be found in "The Kristeva Reader," edited by Toril Moi.
What catches your attention here?
What formations confuse/excite you?
For me, I appreciate how she positions the subject as split. This helps me bridge the traditional gap between Freud and Marx, and of course, this allows for semanalysis as a signifying process, and I really appreciate how it allows the subject to deviate from the symbolic order. If I am reading this correctly, this is what Kristeva calls the thetic act.
I am still shaky on the Hegelian concept of negativity.
